PE/ Sports Premium Funding

In March 2013 the government announced that it was to provide additional funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013 to 2014 and 2014 to 2015 to improve provision of physical education and sport in primary schools in England – The Primary PE and Sport Premium. On 17th July 2017, the DfE confirmed the doubling of the Primary PE & Sport Premium.

The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools, but we have the freedom to choose how to do this. Waddington Redwood Primary Academy expects to receive approximately £23,207 for 2018-19, which includes a £5,745 carry forward from 2017-18. We have a responsibility to ensure that this money is spent in line with the key indicators of improvement.

Vision

To ‘broaden horizons’ for every pupil, so that by the time they leave the school they have the building blocks for life-long learning and can turn every small step into a giant leap.

To realise our Vision we will have the following priorities:

  1. Further improve pupil outcomes in attainment and progress.
  2. Further develop teaching and learning so that it is outstanding.
  3. To strengthen leadership and management so that it is outstanding.
  4. Continue to build on the excellent outcomes for personal development, behaviour and welfare.
  5. Continue to build on the excellent practice in Early Years provision.

Professional Development

Synergy staff were paid for from the budget to improve staff ability and confidence in teaching particular sports and skills.

Child Participation

The impact of the funding has been to increase the variety and frequency of clubs being offered by the school: The facilities available for Football Club and Tennis club at Ruston Sports Center have also been of a higher standard than those available at Redwood

Competitive Sport

There has been an increase in the number and variety of inter-school sports tournaments attended based on the money budgeted for transport.

The above has resulted in a higher number of children participating in inter-school competitions

Resources

We have increased the amount of resources available for rugby and KS1 general teaching equipment to increase active-involvement of pupils in lessons and clubs.

Five 32GB iPad minis with cases were purchased to allow for better self and peer evaluation and feedback in PE.
