Parent/ Carer Satisfaction Survey – May 2018

Headteacher response

‘I am thrilled with the progress my children are making.  They have brilliant teachers and a great school environment.  Redwood is a great school! May 2018 Parent/Carer Satisfaction Survey.

Thank you to all parents/carers who completed the questionnaire in May 2018.  We had a total of 61 surveys returned, and we welcome your feedback.

We are pleased that the vast majority of you (98%) felt that your children are kept safe in school.  You also agreed that they are happy at school, and we are delighted that 100% of you indicated that your children are well looked after and well taught.  94% of you stated that the school is well-managed and led, and you agreed that the staff respond well to any concerns that you may raise.  The majority of you felt that children behave well in school and only 3% disagreed with this.  Our Ofsted report in July 2017 stated, ‘behaviour in school is outstanding.’   Our monitoring of lessons, playtimes and lunchtimes indicates that that behaviour continues to be excellent overall and attitudes to learning are of a high standard due to high quality teaching and learning.

84% of you felt that the homework given to your child was appropriate but a small number disagreed with this.  There were some useful comments around this subject and for parents/carers who opted to give their name, we will contact you individually to discuss and feedback on your comments.

82% of you stated that the school deals effectively with bullying.  In comparison to the May 2017 survey, this is an increase of 5%.  We feel that the work that our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors are doing is having a positive effect and we will continue to keep you up-to-date with the excellent work that they do around school.  If your child is feeling unhappy about any situation in school, I urge you to contact the class teacher immediately to discuss the issue so we can resolve it straight away.

A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to comment on aspects of the school that they are pleased with.  I will be passing these comments on to staff, governors and children.  In general, you felt that the teachers were approachable, they supported your children very well and if you had any problems then they are easily resolved.  You commented that you felt the school was a happy place where your children had excellent relationships with staff and generally, you were very pleased with the provision for after school clubs and activities.

Your feedback on how we can further develop is also most appreciated.  A number of parents/carers indicated that they would like to receive more information on their child’s progress.  During 2017-18, we have been investigating how we can keep you better informed in an efficient and effective way.  We are finalising the details but we expect to provide you with more regular progress reports in the next academic year, in addition to parents’ evenings and the annual reports that you now receive.  In the meantime, if you would like to discuss your child’s progress at any point in the year, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

Some parents indicated that the reception toilets needed to be updated and I thought that this would be a good opportunity to let you know that this will be happening during the summer break.  We are planning to decorate the reception cloakroom and toilet area, the key stage one corridor and two classrooms in the upper part of the school.  In addition, we will be creating an outdoor learning area for year one and year two.

Once again, on behalf of governors and staff, I would like to thank you for your time in completing our survey. Your feedback is highly valued and we look forward to working in partnership with you so that your children are happy and safe, and receive a high standard of education in line with our ‘Broadening Horizons’ ethos.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs F Kent
