Home Learning
At Waddington Redwood, we encourage a "little and often" approach to homework that supports learning without becoming a source of stress at home. Children in Reception & Key Stage 1 are expected to use Numbots, and those in Key Stage 2 should use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS), aiming for at least 30 minutes per week. If your child has misplaced their Numbots or TTRS login details, please contact school and their class teacher will be happy to provide them again.
Daily reading is also strongly encouraged, as regular reading builds vocabulary, improves concentration, and supports learning across all subjects. Every time your child reads, please make sure it is recorded in their reading record- children in Key Stage 2 are encouraged to write in their own reading records too.
Spelling words are sent home every Friday and will be tested the following Friday. We recommend setting a regular routine and celebrating small successes to help your child stay motivated. If homework becomes a challenge or you're unsure how to help, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher- we’re here to support you.
Times Tables Rockstars is a fun and interactive resource for becoming more fluent at your times tables. As you get faster you are rewarded with opportunities to design and enhance your own avatar. The range of options allow you to practise your skills individually or compete against friends in the arenas. The intelligent software monitors progress and is able to target questions to achieve success and deliver improvements. To access the site you will need your username and password. Ask your child’s class teacher if they are unsure.
The creators of Times Tables Rock Stars have produced a platform for boosting number recognition, addition and subtraction skills called NumBots. Numbots can be accessed through the Times Tables Rockstars login.
